Colleen's favorite toys and treats

I'm a big believer that dog toys should not only be safe and fun but they should also give
our dogs an outlet for their natural drives and abilities.
These are my favourite toys and the ways that they can be stuffed in order to provide hours
of interactive fun for even the most creative of chewers.  Think of these as Rubik's Cubes
for your Canine Einstein's.

For things that the dog can see into such as the yellow football and the large black chunky
holey round balls above, chew bones and hard cookies make challenging stuffers.

The red AMAZE-A-BALL and the big orange ball are both great for kibble.  One of my new
favorites, the TUX (seen above left corner in orange) is fantastic for stuffing with
homemade smears.  The TUX is like a KONG but with a bonus...the dog can see into it.  It's
also EXTREMELY sturdy for really strong chewers.

All of these items come in various sizes to accommodate every size of dog.

SMEAR RECIPE IDEAS

To make a smear that your dog will love, take some of his favorite biscuit like cookies and
crush them into crumbs.

Next, add enough water to wet the crumbs and make a paste like consistency.  With this
paste as your base, get creative and add things like a bit of peanut or almond butter, maybe
some cheese spread, fruit/veggie pieces like apple or carrot.  You don't need to add much
of these flavor and texture boosters to make a big impact.

Now that you have your smear, stuff it into your kong, or other 'smear appropriate'
interactive toy, put it into a zip lock bag and pop it into the freezer.

Freezing the smear filled toy will increase the time it takes your dog to enjoy it and dogs
love this 'PUP'SICLE ...Especially when it's hot outside.

**Be sure to wash any residue from these interactive toys as the left over smear inside will
go rancid.**  I throw them in a bucket of hot (lightly soapy) water and use a toothbrush to
clean them, air dry.

All of the items on my 'favourites' list for this page can be found at the Pet Planet store in
your area.  I LOVE these stores and the people who own them are knowledgeable, helpful
and just about as nice as they come!

The Pet Planet stores carry fantastic foods (the highest quality of kibble, raw and
everything in between) and great pet accessories.

If it's nutritional advise that you need or suggestions for your pets specific requirements,
this is the place to go!
